Sappa delivers TV services to over 400,000 households in Sweden, via cable and IPTV. They are the leading Swedish TV provider over SMATV, and number three among the Swedish cable operators. Since 2016, internet access and voice over IP is also included in their offerings.

Challenge

Sappa partnered with Magine Pro to create a TV everywhere OTT solution that delivers live, catch-up and VOD content to over 50,000 existing Sappa broadband and TV customers in Sweden.

Solution

  • Create a Sappa branded OTT service for multiscreen devices (web, iOS, Android) on Magine Pro’s proven platform.
  • Leverage Magine Pro’s Media Pipeline and multivariate DRM platform to securely ingest, transcode and protect 50+ linear Sappa channels.
  • Enable rewind functionality for live video where timeshift rights exist, and up to seven days catch-up on content where rights are applicable.
  • Securely ingest VOD content via CMORE and Viasat that Sappa have secured rights to distribute.
  • Ingest and integrate Sappa’s metadata into the Magine Pro Console, giving Sappa back-end control to edit and manage metadata and enforce content rights.
  • Integrate with Sappa’s CRM and subscriber data, enabling a frictionless login and user experience for Sappa’s existing customers, including the option to upgrade viewing packages.
  • Leverage Magine Pro’s CDN provisioning network and distribution infrastructure to ensure high-quality and low-latency video streams 24/7 to all requesting devices.
  • With Magine Pro’s solution for Server Side Ad Insertion, Sappa can now offer broadcasters a feature that is well prepared for the growing demand of targeted advertising.

    Result

    Magine Pro provided Sappa with a secure TV everywhere solution for their live, catch-up and VOD content. The Sappa Play service features a branded interface that includes user-friendly features such as rewind on live TV, catch-up functionality and VOD discovery categories. At present, the cloud-based service delivers 37 channels to over 50,000 Swedish households that are existing Sappa customers, and is available on all multiscreen devices, supporting web, iOS and Android.
